Nervey People Anyway!

Sammy, our little dog, is normally about the sweetest, most lovable little mutt a body could ever hope to own!

He's super friendly and extremely good around children -especially small children who like to run and chase with him in the house and he even abides one small boy who likes to hang on him a good bit of the time too.

All in all, Sam is just the best possible dog one could ask to have -except for well maybe, one small thing.

Apparently Sam is operating on the mistaken belief that there are franchises for the road in front of our house and that he owns every one of them. And, with that in mind, that anyone who dares to walk in front of our house must, absolutely MUST be barked at and in the loudest possible dog voice imaginable too!

Sheesh, Sam! Give it a rest, will ya?

The neighbor from up the street is really allowed to walk past here -and to do it in peace too!

I know, I know -Sam's just exercising his good dog, I'm watching out for you, routine to show us he's really on the ball, paying attention to these things.

But one or two barks is all that's really necessary!

Our dog does the very same thing, except she's 85 pounds and her bark is deep and loud. Too loud.

Have a terrific day. :)

Oh, Lord, Jeni, you've hit upon a particular pet peeve of mine (no pun intended!) I absolutely abhor barking dogs. Years back, I lived next to a couple who left their dogs out in the yard all day and those dogs were constantly barking at every damn thing that moved. I swore blue streaks at both those dogs and their owners for, literally, years. When we finally moved, one of my criteria for a new place was that the neighborhood be dog free. That's how badly it had affected me.

Now, understand, I don't hate dogs. Most of them I find to be nice and good company. But barking dogs that are barking for no good human reason... drives me 'round the bend.

Don't worry about Sammy saying hello to us when we walk past your house, theres lots of dogs around town that say hello to us when we walk by. When we walk by we wave and say hello to Sammy. Remember I have a little yapper in my house and when somebody is over at the mailboxes and shuts the car door a little too loud (for him) he starts barking.

Both places we lived in while in San Diego were surrounded with barking dogs and drove us nuts. When we moved to Nebraska the number one priority was quiet neighborhood. The house we lived in was very quiet and now in the new little house in the little town it is so peaceful too. We are so grateful. The neighbor across the street when we first moved here had a large dog that barked on and on sometimes but we adjusted to it. Then suddenly we didn't see the dog anymore. Last week there was a new dog there and we asked them about the new dog and apparently the other dog got too aggressive with their kids. So far the new dog is a part time barker, and not over and over. Much better than the other one.

I don't think Sammy barking a few times from inside your house is a problem. It's those people who leave their dogs chained up outside to bark for hours on end that are a problem.

My dog does the same thing! She's just a lit'l 'ol thing, weighs maybe 14lbs. but whenever someone or SOMETHING goes past the house my lit'l pup grows 10 ft. tall and starts yappin' away and struggling against her tie up to get to whoever or whatever dared to stroll the public sidewalk!

I just started spraying water at my 2 little terriers every time they bark. It was so obnoxious...
I love them so much but if a leaf blew by they would bark as if in a barking competition between the 2 of them...
The water is working...only had to use it 2x; now I just reach for the bottle and they stop:)
Yeah Penn State! I live in Delaware County. I am visiting State College next week for a friends book signing:)

When I was a kid, we lived in a house with a dirt alley running behind our back fence, then a stand of trees, and then finally a wide grassy park area. We kept a German Shepard in our back yard at that house, and he would bark at anyone walking in the alley, but only while they were between our fence posts.
