Every year, when the weather starts to turn warmer -and then warmer still as summer approaches and finally arrives -there is a war -frequently -here in this household between Mandy and me!
And, one thing in particular -plus several other things in general -almost have me wishing that I could take some extenze and that way, I could win our little war here.
What is it that causes this warfare between us, you ask?
Well, it's the ceiling fan in the living room!
I don't consider myself to be of short stature cause I am 5 ft. 6 inches -or at least, I was in the past anyway. That's pretty much an average height I believe, isn't it?
Well our darned ceiling fan here has two pull-chains -one which turns the light off if you don't want to use the wall switch and the other chain -well it controls the fan.
Don't get me wrong now, I like having the fan on when it is hot (since we don't have any air conditioner, ya know) as it does help to move the air around a bit, helps to cool things down and if it gets really unbearable, we hook up a big fan in the middle of the house to let the air blow around a bit more in the entire downstairs.
But, most of the time -even on really hot days -by midnight (sometimes a bit earlier than that) the temperatures begin to drop. The windows get closed to keep the chilly air from coming in but that darned fan often gets overlooked when Mandy goes to bed and leaves me downstairs -to my own devices.
And although I can reach the chain that turns the lights on and off, be darned if I can reach up and grab hold of the darned chain that controls the stinking fan.
That leaves me but one alternative -get a chair from the dining room and figure out a safe way for me -clumsy as I tend to be -to get up on the darned chair to be able to reach that lousy little chain and turn the fan off -otherwise, I freeze then if its left running all night.
Mandy is only about an inch and a half taller than me but that gives her just enough extra height that she can reach that chain with no problems to pull it -before she goes to bed -and turn the fan off for me.
We did have an extension on the chain but it broke off the second or third time I used it and haven't got a new one to give me a safe way to turn the bloody thing off as yet.
Excuse me now as I have to catch Mandy before she heads off to bed cause she'd be really ticked if I used the chair and then fell and broke my arm, leg or even worse, my hip!
Then I'd really be sunk, wouldn't I?

I know what you need! You need a pole with a hook on the end of it. Then you need someone to get up there and put a ring on the end of that chain. Then you can hook the ring and turn off the fan!
