At Odds

There's actually a bit of a small war ongoing in my home these days.

Here' I am -overweight, needing to take off more than a few pounds, for sure and that would make me probably a good consumer for diet supplements and then there's my son-in-law, who is so thin a good brisk wind could probably just whisk him up and away. Or there's also the two finicky eaters at the lower end of the age scale here who would prefer a steady diet of nothing but macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggest and chocolate milk! Oh -those two would also appreciate a bit of candy thrown in frequently too!

So cooking a meal here really takes a bit of mental effort -as well as the physical preparation too. What can I fix that I like that isn't really unhealthy or very fattening that will work in the reverse for Bill and at the same time, appeal to the two fairly normal eaters in the house -Mandy and Katie -while still managing to impress Kurt and Maya to eat more than a tiny nibble of things some days.

And people wonder then why I can't figure out what the heck to prepare for supper here, day after day after boring day in the kitchen!

Good luck with that! I've been struggling with the same battle and the same situation in my household.. It's do-able but it's a little bit of work. I went on WW and everyone in the house ate what I ate but then they had their second helpings and snacks n' goodies and I had to stick with my limited food BUT I did have success with WW and I'm going to start it up again.. Hate to do it so close to the holidays coming up, seems kinda' pointless but we'll see.. Hahaha.. And thus you see how the whole dieting thing goes in my house! =)

Sounds like you need a little Zydeco music in your kitchen. Play it and dance to it while you're cooking and then you can eat as much as you want.:)

Ugh. I say let them eat whatever you put on the table, and if they don't like it cook themselves!

Well, okay, you love them and all that, so... I suppose the best thing to do is view it as a really good puzzle to be worked out?

Families can be a pain when it comes to meal times.
Mine are dreadful & when my daughter & granddsons come to stay, cooking is a nightmare. I am a semi veggie (no red meat) My daughter is coeliac (I think you spell it seliac) My 2 grandsons live on thin air. The austistic one hates certain textures and smells & starts vomiting easily. The younger is just plain faddy. Both live on about 6 different foods (not all healthy, nuggets & chips being the favourite) My granddaughters don't like fruit & veg! I get beside myself!
Luckily my old man eats anything except boiled eggs which make him heave!

That is quite the challenge!

It is easy around my house. Just me and PDM, and we have pretty similar tastes.

I have a grandson who eats like Kurt and Maya. His poor mother doesn't know what to cook either.

The same dilemma goes on in any house where more than one person resides I think. There are only two in our house and we are scratching our heads and trying to figure what to fix so much of the time that would be good for each of us and also appeal to us. It is a as you say a lot of mental effort.

That's the eternal dilemma, isn't it? It's just hard to make a meal that meets everyone's approval, no matter what age they are.

I can sympathize with you on this one as cooking for Amanda can truly be a royal pain the butt as there are so many things that she won't eat and heaven forbid I make frozen vegetables or canned vegetables either! Then when I do make fresh ones, she doesn't like those either! Argh!!

Then there's the whole thing about her wanting to actually have meals when I'd rather just have one big meal and call it good but oh no, even when we have a decent lunch she's always got to ask what's for dinner? Kids! You'd think they needed to be fed regularly or something!

That sure doesn't sound fun! I have things that I just can't eat, health wise, but we're pretty good at comprimising now that it's pretty much just me and Riff left at home. I don't envy you your battle at all.

Hi Jeni! I'm doing my rounds...man, I haven't been over here in ages...I am so sorry! I hate diets. I actually do not know how to be on one and the more I stay on the computer, the bigger I get. There must be an answer!

this is kinda funny...as in following your last post about borrowing...
wouldn't it be grand if those of us with extra could give it to those that need a bit more.

I say everybody eats mac & cheese...yum
