Survival of the B.S.

Some days I just think "How the heck did I ever survive raising three kids alone?"

Nowadays, my younger daughter, her husband, his oldest daughter and their two little ones live with me and here I am, once again, trying to figure out the mindset of a 14-year-old girl!

Not an easy task to do either, I might add!

This kid - the step-granddaughter - is going to get me started drinking again - for sure! Well, if I had once had a drinking problem and if I now had the finances to be able to afford to go out and have several brews, it would be about enough to push me over that edge.

It is absolutely incredible how little the thought process, with respect to using logic or common sense, comes into play in the mind of a 14-year-old who is convinced she will either be the next Madonna or will play the guitar like Eric Clapton or be an artist like Andy Warhol or someone else or maybe she will be a lawyer, or a criminal investigator - anything that sounds like it would be really exciting anyway and will provide big financial rewards.

However, what she doesn't configure into this picture - with respect ot any of her career choices - is that no matter what you opt for, it is going to take work - and lots of it too - to be at the top of ones game!

The lawyer idea went down the tubes when she realized she would have to go to college plus a few more years of law school after that - and considering she sees no value in doing a lick of homework now to assure passing from 8th grade to the 9th grade, the aspect of even applying to a college is somewhat of a joke!

And, besides that, her theory then became "Well, what if I went to school all those years and then didn't like the work, I would have wasted all that time in school!"

Gee, nothing though about all the time she is wasting in school right now though - her time, the teacher's time too - as the teacher goes about his/her business of trying to impart a little knowledge that just might be useful someday!

Nope - I'm just too darned old now for this freaking B.S.!

My 14 year old daughter is doing that all sweet & innocence thing, yet out there in school she is not so innocent. I have no illusions as any child being "perfect" So when you figure it out let me know.
