Old Friend Calling

Boy, what a day it's been!

Starting with last night, when Kurtis fell asleep early -like shortly before 9 p.m. -which was fine -except that he woke up around midnight and decided he really wasn't the least bit interested then in going back to sleep! Now he wasn't fussing -just was being super nice and friendly -jabbering to me, talking to himself and stuff like that but he was wide awake -and baby, I do mean WIDE AWAKE too until about 4:30-4:45 Tuesday morning!

And I was awake with him then too and for about better than an hour too after he did finally decide to fall back to sleep!

Then, Mandy had to wake him up about 9 a.m. because he had an appointment for an evaluation for the school he will start attending 3 days a week, beginning next Tuesday, at 10 a.m. so he was crabby when he got up then and that crabbiness lasted the bulk of the day! Finally, around 8:15 tonight, he did a crash and burn and we haven't heard a peep out of him since then! And I am praying this sleep will last, carry him through to about 10 in the morning!

Tonight though, we had a very pleasant surprise in that a lady who, along with her late husband had been part of the friends circle my ex-husband and I used to be a part of back in the 70s stopped by!

I can't begin to tell you how great it was to have her stop by for coffee and to chat.

We talked about everything and anything -from the time we (our old gang) were all at a big dance out at Cooper Grove and my ex-husband did "the streak" around the dance floor to how to find a good health insurance lead. Talk about some rambling conversions well let me tell you, ours was IT for sure!

The last time she was down here to chat like this was before I had the kitchen and dining room area of my house done over and that remodeling took place back in 1989-90! So that gives you and idea of how many new and exciting things have been happening to both of us in our lives. Also gives you and idea too of the wide range of topics we had available then to try to cover, ya know!

Mandy was too little back when there were about five of us couples who were very close friends back in the 70s so she has no recollection at all about Delores' late husband, Ronnie. Mandy barely knows Delores' younger daughter, Lisa, and doesn't know her older daughter, Dona, at all! But she had a fun time too sitting in with us, drinking at least one pot of coffee and about half of a second pot as we remembered many of the fun times we shared back then.

She was totally shocked to learn that my ex-husband finally quit drinking almost 16 years ago now and when I told her he was re-married -again -for the fifth time, no less, I thought she was going to spit her coffee all over herself and Mandy and me too! Yeah, I explained to her that he was always a bit of a slow learner where women are concerned. But, as my old friend from down in D.C. -now living in West Virginia likes to say about Frank, "He is most definitely the marrying kind." Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad one there though.

The last time Delores was here, she had one granddaughter then who was about 2 years old and now, that girl is 22 and Delores has two other granddaughters besides her. And back then, I had no grandchildren but today, I have three of 'em and she got to see Kurtis at his finest tonight too as he first strutted around here showing off his lovely physique -naked, no less -and from that he went on to perform one really massive meltdown too before he suddenly went very quiet as he did a "crash and burn" all curled up in the recliner! Lucky for us that Delores is pretty unflappable! That's one of the traits I always really enjoyed about her.

So anyway, tonight was actually a really great night -for me and also for Mandy as she giggled frequently as Delores and I talked about some of the many crazy things that our old group of great friends did way back in that era of our dark ages!

Hope we're able to have lots more of the kind of visit such as we had tonight now too!

Nothing beats catching up with old friends.

I love it when the kids decide that since they can't sleep, you must not be able to sleep either. It's lovely, especially the next day when you have to wake up early in the morning.

Sometimes the best visits from friends come after a lengthy seperation. I'm glad you had such a good day after such a long night.

Always good to have old friends round and catch up.

Oh.... I am useless without my sleep. I do hope Kurtis is not getting into a bad pattern of sleeplessness.

Jeni,

I'm so glad your friend dropped by and spent a pleasant evening chatting about everything that's happened in the years that have passed. It's always nice to hear from old friends.

Hope you have a great 4th, my friend.
Blessings,
Mary

It is nice to catch up with old friends. I got a Skype call (free online long distance) from an old friend yesterday. We chatted for about 40 mins. It was nice as I was feeling a bit forlorn and lonely being the unremitting fishing widow that I am. He is out again today, and he said he is feeling guilty about leaving me alone so much but even if I asked him to stay home what would he do and then I would feel guilty. It is a bit of a bind

It is always nice to meet old friends, especially those with whom you share a lot of personal experiences. Years just seem to drop away.

PS Thank you for the comment - you are welcome to try! :-)

Your description of catching up with old friends makes me look forward to Sept when my friend since 8th grade is driving through here with her mother on a month long road trip. I hope we get some giggles in and some reminiscing.
