I cannot see how the school district can forbid it from the premises. The child needs that dog to function and believe me, I know what animals can do for those who have Asperger's Syndrome.

I suggest you post the email of the school district or of the state legislature. Then we can bombard them with emails protesting this treatment of the child. I would think this is against his human rights. He has been diagnosed and has every right to receive all the support he can get, whether it be academic, social learning or having his dog by his side.

If you decide to post email addresses, I will post about this and make them available to my readers as well. The treatment of this child infuriates me.

Blessings to you for posting this.
MaryMaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08175754179624182953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-61999574620717755262009-04-15T11:51:00.000-04:002009-04-15T11:51:00.000-04:00I generally have great respect for teachers, but I...I generally have great respect for teachers, but I have found over the years that, unfortunately, some of the stupidest people alive also become teachers. Those even stupider become administrators. And a few seem to have washed up on your educational shore. I pity the folks who have to deal with such drones.Suldoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07778845367184916684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-73739072811143350962009-04-15T09:48:00.000-04:002009-04-15T09:48:00.000-04:00This type of thing makes me seethe. I should imagine it would be exactly the same in Amy's school. I wanted to take a lamb to school last year but they said a definite no. Hygeine, health & safety crap. I was absolutely fuming when I found out a few weeks later that another parent, a member of the school committee, took one of her lambs in and no one bat an eye lid. I suggest this family keep trying because there's always a way around things.

These dogs are an absolute god send. It is common knowledge to the autistic society that animals, dogs in particular have a wonderful knack of helping a child with such needs. I know, it's helped Amy considerably.

CJ xxAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-21920843268312518632009-04-15T04:30:00.000-04:002009-04-15T04:30:00.000-04:00Over here it wouldn't be allowed.

Also other children would probably mix with this boy more if he had a dog. Everyone is attracted to an animal and this would help this boy.
I wonder, would they take this attitude with a guide dog for the blind?Maggie Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06183886005936250976noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-49921262766765836972009-04-15T00:35:00.001-04:002009-04-15T00:35:00.001-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Jennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10319000223773398092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-37085058940451794382009-04-15T00:35:00.000-04:002009-04-15T00:35:00.000-04:00She needs to write her congressman. I absolutely believe that dogs and animals are therapeutic and foster an amazing connection to children with autism and special needs. I definitely am a supporter of pets for kids with autism.

I think the school district jumped the gun-if they need a policy or law, that should have been clear from the beginning. If there are complaints, that should be honestly addressed with the parents, administrators and teacher. I can see where there might be just cause for concern related to allergies or students who are afraid (I am not a fan of dogs, very nervous).Linda Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16801313102525232162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-17863318099026147482009-04-14T20:38:00.000-04:002009-04-14T20:38:00.000-04:00They allowed service animals at my school back in ...They allowed service animals at my school back in the 70's.

Why would they restrict them at this one?

It makes no sense.

There are plenty of things they can flex their administrative muscles over.

Denying a boy his theraputic animal is stupid and unwise move.nonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07550167783969561280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-81581286855901860412009-04-14T20:37:00.000-04:002009-04-14T20:37:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.nonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07550167783969561280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34398479.post-32344352838089094772009-04-14T18:53:00.000-04:002009-04-14T18:53:00.000-04:00My daughter is a counselor for troubled children a...My daughter is a counselor for troubled children and you would be surprised at the attitude she gets from the school. I would be willing to bet that the school district was all for it until someone complained about something as that's usually the way it seems to go. Sadly I also bet they fight about this for a long time to come while Austin is missing out on the benefits of having Rosie with him.
